Wayne State University’s Department of Anesthesiology provides anesthesia services at all Detroit Medical Center facilities as well as acute- and chronic-pain management at the University Pain Clinic. The goals of the Department of Anesthesiology are to provide high-quality clinical care, education and research, both basic and clinical.

Wayne State University anesthesiologists can be found in seven Detroit-area hospitals, three ambulatory surgery centers and five imaging centers. In all, more than 70,000 cases per year are performed by WSU anesthesiologists DMC sites. These services include 45,220 surgical outpatient cases, 25,080 surgical inpatient cases, 16,000 deliveries and 3,200 Caesarian sections.

We practice as a physician-directed anesthesia care team with nearly 60 senior anesthesiologists on active staff, providing medical direction and education to more than 100 certified nurse anesthetists, 40 resident physician staff, 20 student nurse anesthetists, clinical nurse practitioners in pain management and anesthesia technicians.
