The mission of Wayne State University neurosurgeons is to provide each patient with the highest quality care while seeking to treat both the specific neurosurgical condition as well as the individual as a whole. Our neurosurgeons comprise a team of highly skilled specialists who offer the most comprehensive neurosurgical care in the state of Michigan.

These physicians were selected to be part of the Wayne State University academic medical practice because of their keen interests and advanced training in neurosurgical subspecialities. These subspecialities include:

  • Spine reconfiguration;
  • Stereotactic surgery and radiosurgery;
  • Gamma-knife surgery;
  • Neurosurgical oncology;
  • Skull-base surgery;
  • Movement disorders;
  • Trauma; and
  • Minimally invasive neuroendovascular procedures.

The philosophy is simple: The more experience you have in treating specific neurological conditions, the better you are at identifying and treating them in the future.

Because our neurosurgeons are also faculty members at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, they are able to pioneer technologies and perform groundbreaking research in their areas of interest. In fact, not only are Wayne State University neurosurgeons frequently invited to speak at national and international conventions, but fully trained physicians worldwide travel to Detroit to train with our physicians to learn subspecialty procedures and treatments.

While the expertise of any surgeon is critical, so is the support staff taking part in each patient's care. Our surgeons have several dedicated nurses and physicians' assistants working directly with their patients. The nurses based in the hospital all hold advanced degrees. The nurses in the office are available by telephone to answer all questions regarding pre-surgical and post-surgical care expectations.

In addition, the nursing staff has organized a support group called "Look Ahead" for their neurosurgical patients. The goal of the support group is to improve the quality of life by providing the patients, their families and friends with knowledge and information to successfully manage their individual neurosurgical conditions.
