Wayne State University Obstetrics and Gynecology is the leading provider of obstetrical and gynecological services in southeast Michigan.

University Women's Care, the practice group that represents Wayne State University obstetricians and gynecologists, is widely recognized as one of the leading academic departments in the country. This ranking is based on federal and National Institutes of Health grant funding, the number of peer-reviewed publications produced by its faculty, awarding of prize papers and the number of presentations faculty members give at annual societal meetings.

Its divisions include general obstetrics and gynecology, perinatology, reproductive endocrinology and infertility, reproductive genetics and gynecologic oncology. The department is staffed with 20 primary-care obstetrician/gynecologists, 13 perinatologists, one geneticist, six reproductive endocrinologists and five oncologists. In addition, 15 PhD-level scientists work in the department's multidisciplinary setting, collaborating with care-providers. The department is home to 44 residents, seven fellows and 20 medical students on eight-week rotations. More than 14,000 infants are delivered annually, and more than 11,000 gynecologic surgical procedures are performed, two-thirds of which are ambulatory. There are more than 85,000 OB/GYN outpatient visits per year at the central facilities.

University Women's Care has extensive, state-of-the-art clinical facilities to support its patient-care, research and training activities. These include: clinical offices throughout the metro-Detroit area; the Eleanor Hutzel Recovery Center, which has the only substance-abuse recovery center in the three-county area that accepts pregnant patients; obstetrical imaging facilities, where more than 15,000 studies per year are performed using five advanced ultrasound machines equipped with VCR and still-image documentation, pulse Doppler and vaginal probe; and a five-bed maternal critical-care unit that is staffed by two perinatologists trained in critical care as well as nurses cross-trained in critical care and obstetrics.
